The service is based on providing a SAS platform to generate an accurate report that farmers or financiers can use to verify, validate and confirm livestock or other agricultural assets – irrespective location or type of equipment to be verified.

The platform has been designed to integrate seamlessly with the best-in-class drone software and is agnostic to brand or type of drone used.

ARCHITECTURE

Our image recognition software and models utilise the latest and most advanced open source libraries in the world, facilitating best-in-class capabilities and benefiting from the world’s leading universities and other open source contributors.

The platform is bespoke and developed with React front end interface and deployed in the Cloud on AWS, providing the scale and processing power needed to continually train our models and process the large number of images received.

INTELLIGENT REPORTING

We have trained our livestock recognition models on hundreds of thousands of images across both feeding pens and open fields and integrated our models into a holistic platform.

The solution provides not only confirmation of the number of assets, but in the case of cattle also more advanced insights around weight estimation, health and feeding behaviour.

ADVANTAGES OF USING ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

   ACCURACY

We have proven that using our platform for a physical count is more accurate than a human count. We have the ability to re-count or go back to an individual pen at any time to prove or substantiate our number. Physical counts have no substantiation for their numbers. Its our opinion using this technology will become the norm for all use where accurate physical count is needed and will change the way audits take place in the future.

   COST

We suspect that using AI and drones will be much cheaper than using human resource.

   ANIMAL WELFARE

The individual animals are not even aware they are being counted and therefore there is no chance of stress, injury or physical inconvenience.

   LOSS OF REVENUE MINIMIZED

Physical counts often lead to injury and individuals needing to be put down on the back of it. In addition animals being stressed on the day can lead to them not eating optimally and normal operations not being able to be performed.

   TIME SAVING – REDUCED IMPACT ON OPERATIONS

Within hours the entire process relating to the counting of pens is complete. Image processing can then start off-site, and normal operations can resume

   FEED PEN MANAGEMENT AND ACCURATE FOOD ALLOCATION

Regular accurate stock counts can help optimise the food allocated to individual pen’s and therefore improve weight gain and optimise cost management.

   ADVANCED BEHAVIOURAL ANALYTICS

We can run advanced analytics analysing pen behaviour, assisting management to help analyse potential operational inefficiencies. Example is the ability to identify each animals position within each pen to identify sick or hungry animals.

Chisl specialises in data engineering and advanced reporting. Our platform is therefore built with integration in mind using the latest technology allowing it to integrate directly into automated feedlot programs as well as general ledger or stock reconciliation software.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The standard workflow is as follows:

  1. Identify target area in Google Earth
  2. Plan drone flight
  3. Allocate and annotate pen/kraal numbers
  4. Drone flight
  5. Upload aerial photography to the CHISL Server
  6. Automatic imagery- and data processing
  7. Report generated and e-mailed to customer
